Newsflash: Americans think that Korea, China, and Japan look like a Chicken chasing a fish!?

I was shocked to find out that Americans believe that Korea, China, and Japan look like a chicken chasing a fish.

Yes, according to the SBS-MSNBC an un-named and un-sourced online community of Americans made this picture of a chicken grabbing a fish.  Apparently netizens are spreading it like wildfire because it’s a “typical example of Orientalism” in which people compare national territory to animal shapes.  Don’t Koreans say that Korea is shaped like a tiger?    They get mad at the Japanese for saying Korea is shaped like a rabbit though.

So, the idea I guess is that Americans are projecting Orientalism on China, Japan, and Korea by putting it in animal terms, and some people think it’s a big deal.

Don’t tell them about  4chan, especially /b.

I don’t really understand this…. that’s worse citation work than that North Korean Video you showed me that used some corrupt African Nation as a ‘credible’ source.

    I’m speechless.

You know, I’ve actually read Edward Said’s ORIENTALISM cover to cover, twice. I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who used the term “orientalism” who has even seen the book’s cover.
